Finding Support That Fits You
Starting therapy is a meaningful step. You may be looking for relief from stress, struggling with relationships, or simply wanting life to feel different. With over 30 years of experience providing individual therapy in Chicago, I offer a supportive and flexible approach tailored to your unique needs.
My Approach to Individual Therapy
No two people are the same. Each client brings their own story, challenges, and hopes for change. My role is to listen, adapt, and bring both professional expertise and genuine presence to support your growth. The approach taken toward individual therapy with me is always a collaborative process, where we work together to uncover what feels most important and set goals that truly matter to you.
Individual Therary That Looks at the Past or the Present
People come to therapy with different needs. Some want to understand how early experiences shaped who they are today. For this, I draw on psychodynamic therapy, which explores how early relationships often set patterns that influence current ones—especially with partners and spouses.
Others prefer to focus on what’s happening right now. I also offer solution-focused therapy, which emphasizes symptom relief and practical tools. This may include strategies for managing reactivity, practicing communication skills, and learning to express needs more effectively in important relationships.
An Engaged and Responsive Therapist
Many clients have told me that in past therapy experiences, their therapist mostly asked questions or remained passive without offering much feedback. That’s not how I work. When I commit to being your therapist, I believe I owe you my clinical opinion—and I share it openly. I also acknowledge that my opinion may not always be spot on. Still, those conversations often lead to meaningful discussion, connection, and healing—and, importantly, progress toward your goals.
What to Expect When Starting Individual Therapy
I understand that beginning therapy can feel awkward—or even a little intimidating. Most people feel at least some nervousness about meeting a new therapist and opening up. My clients often describe me as warm, present, curious, and easy to talk with. I ask thoughtful questions, stay engaged, and genuinely care about who you are. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood.
Is Individual Therapy Right for You?
Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress, or simply a desire for personal growth, therapy can help you find clarity and relief. Even if you’re unsure of your exact goals, we can work together to uncover what feels most important and begin moving toward change.
